Every year, thousands of homicide cases go cold. According to the Murder Accountability Project, over 250,000 murders since 1980 remain unsolved in the United States. These aren't just numbers—these represent lives, families, and communities still waiting for justice.

Right now, Clearwater Police are reaching out to our Shreveport-Bossier community for help solving the tragic 2018 double homicide of David and Mina Swan. Originally from Shreveport, David Swan and his wife Mina, both retirees enjoying their golden years, were tragically killed in their Clearwater, Florida home.

"This wasn’t just a random act," says Deputy Chief Michael Walek of the Clearwater Police Department. "These people knew where they were going. They knew what they were doing and what they were going to do."

Why Community Cooperation Matters

Imagine trying to complete a complicated puzzle with crucial pieces missing. Every small detail someone provides could be the puzzle piece that finally reveals the full picture. Even something minor you remember could lead detectives to major breakthroughs.

Community involvement has been instrumental in solving other cold cases:

  • In 2020, community tips helped solve a 40-year-old murder case in Michigan.

  • A California cold case from 1994 was cracked open thanks to neighborhood witnesses speaking up decades later.

Just like those communities stepped forward, Shreveport residents now have the opportunity to make a critical difference in the Swan case.

Real-Life Impact: Why You Should Speak Up

Consider the Dennis Hall murder in Sabine Parish in 2009, a case that remains unsolved. Without enough community involvement, many cases stay unresolved, leaving families in perpetual uncertainty and pain. Speaking up not only helps families find closure but also makes our communities safer.

The Role You Can Play

You don't need to be a detective to help. Just share what you remember, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Digital footprints, overheard conversations, or passing observations can become crucial evidence.

A generous reward of $53,000 is offered by the Swan family for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Clearwater Police have assigned a dedicated detective to this case who is committed full-time to finding answers. You can reach them directly at 727-444-7392 if you have any information.
